nA geographical subdivision of a county, municipality, or similar entity, for political, judicial, or administrative ends; for example, a court district (in which a particular court has jurisdiction over certain matters arising within the borders or pertaining to people who live there) or a voting district (where all the franchised inhabitants are required to vote at a particular polling station).
